The All-American candidate junior receiver will miss the Bear's 2012 spring practices and undergo ankle surgery, coach Jeff Tedford announced via Twitter Wednesday.

Allen, 19, had a scholarship offer on the table from Alabama, but opted to join his half-brother Zach Maynard at Cal after Alabama would not extend a scholarship offer to Maynard.
Allen was an immediate impact for the Bears in his breakout first year in 2010. He rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown, had 490 receiving yards and five touchdowns, and returned 18 kickoffs for 406 yards (22.6 average).
In his sophomore campaign, Allen established himself as Cal's top receiver, despite veteran Marvin Jones lining up on the opposite flank. Allen caught 98 passes for 1,343 yards and six touchdowns, including the longest receiving touchdown in Cal history -- a 90-yard strike at Washington.
