Maryland athletic director Kevin Anderson will be hired in the same position at Stanford University, according to a report Monday.

The San Francisco Chronicle, citing sources, reported that Anderson is in the final stages of negotiating his salary. Andeson agreed to a five-year deal in 2010 at Maryland. Before that he was the athletic director at West Point, starting in 2004.

Comcast SportsNet Washington's Chick Hernandez, a Maryland graduate, posted confirmation of the report on Twitter.

Stanford spokesman Jim Young, responding to an inquiry Monday from Comcast SportsNet Bay Area declined to address the report.

"We will not be offering comment on this report," Young communicated via email.

Anderson, 57, has a history at Stanford. From 1993-95 he was director of annual giving for Stanford athletics.

Anderson is a 1979 San Francisco State graduate and was an assistant athletic director at Cal (1997-2002).

The University of Maryland has denied to WBAL Radio News in Baltimore that Anderson is in talks with Stanford.

Former Cardinal AD Bob Bowlsby announced in May that he had accepted a position as the commissioner of the Big 12 conference.
