LOS ANGELES -- Stanford associate head coach Dick Davey will retire at season's end, a source close to the program revealed today.

Davey joined the Stanford staff in June 2008, two months after Johnny Dawkins was appointed as head coach.

Prior to Stanford, Davey was an assistant at Cal from 1972-1977 before moving to the South Bay to join Caroll Williams' staff at Santa Clara.

After 15 years as an assistant for the Broncos, he succeeded Williams as head coach following the 1991-1992 season.

In his first year at the helm, Davey, along with the help of freshman guard Steve Nash, guided the Broncos to a first-round upset of Arizona in the NCAA Tournament --becoming just the second No. 15 seed to ever knock out a No. 2 seed in the opening round.

Davey and Nash returned to the NCAA Tournament in '95, and advanced to the second round in '96 after upsetting the No. 7 seeded Maryland Terrapins.

In 15 seasons as the head coach at Santa Clara, Davey won three West Coast Conference titles and finished with an overall record of 251-190.
