USF right-handed pitcher Kyle Zimmer was selected No. 5 overall by the Kansas City Royals in the MLB Draft.

Zimmer went 5-3 this season for the Dons with a 2.85 ERA.

"It was a pretty cool surprise," the former third baseman told MLB TV.

He made 13 starts, striking out 104 batters and walking just 17 in 88.1 innings.

There were some questions about Zimmer's health but he put the concerns to rest.

"I feel fine, everything feels great," Zimmer said. "I sort of strained my hamstring about a month ago, and I was sort of battling through that and trying to throw through it. But everything is feeling great now."
