Giants closer Brian Wilson, who visited surgeon Dr. James Andrews for an evaluation of his right elbow, will not require surgery, according to pregame comments from manager Bruce Bochy and the team's training staff.

Bochy spoke with reporters before Thursday's game in Atlanta and said that the examination revealed "just a little inflammation."

Wilson did not speak to reporters but trainer Dave Groeschner briefed the media and said that the scan revealed nothing more than the typical pitching stuff that you see all the time.

Wilson felt a strain while throwing 28 pitches on Monday night, his last appearance for the Giants. He will be evaluated on a day-to-day basis but is not headed for the disabled list at this point.

There's no timetable on when Wilson might be able to pitch again.

"He has a remarkable ability to recover, so I wouldn't put anything past him," Groeschner said. "But we also need to make sure he's healthy."

Wilson is 6-4 this year with 35 saves and a 3.19 ERA.

Andrews performed Tommy John surgery on Wilson when the closer was at LSU.
