NBC SPORTS REGIONAL NETWORKS TO RENAME CALIFORNIA-BASED PROPERTIES TO FEATURE ‘NBC SPORTS’ BRAND

STAMFORD, Conn., and San Francisco, Calif. – March 22, 2017 – NBC Sports Regional Networks will rename CSN Bay Area and CSN California to NBC Sports Bay Area and NBC Sports California, respectively, on April 2, in conjunction with the start of the San Francisco Giants’ 2017 MLB season. The announcement was made today by David Preschlack, President, NBC Sports Regional Networks and NBC Sports Group Platform and Content Strategy.

“From a consumer and business standpoint, it’s ideal for fans to engage with one brand, regionally and nationally,” said Preschlack. “The re-branded name allows us to better associate the prestigious NBC Sports legacy with the strength of our Comcast Sports Networks’ local sports coverage in Northern California. The re-brand will not affect our coverage, however, as fans should expect to continue to receive the most compelling news and content on their favorite local teams in our markets on the platform of their choosing.”

The re-branded RSNs will utilize new logos and graphics, most of which already include the NBC Peacock and other NBC-related branding. Starting Monday, March 27, NBC Sports Bay Area and California will tease the re-brand through on-air promos, graphics and social media content.

The two Northern California-based networks will be the first of NBC Sports Group’s nine regional networks to incorporate the “NBC Sports” brand. A re-brand for the remaining RSNs is currently in exploration, given the unique partnerships with team partners across the RSN markets.

Many NBC Sports production, programming elements and talent have already been incorporated on the CSNs since the Comcast-NBCUniversal acquisition in 2011, much like NBCSN and Golf Channel. In addition, the CSNs first added the NBC Peacock into their logo in 2012. Last summer, Comcast SportsNet changed to CSN. The RSNs also work closely with the NBC stations in most markets, with several RSNs producing sports content for the NBC stations.

“Every child deserves a caring role model in their life to help them thrive and realize their full potential,” says Coaching Corps executive director Janet Carter. “In youth sports, a well-trained coach can make all the difference, helping kids translate skills learned on the playing field into success in school and beyond. Unfortunately, this is not the reality for everyone. Children from low-income communities are only half as likely to participate in sports.”

“Kids in under-resourced communities want to play sports,” says Wally Haas, Coaching Corps founder and Chairperson of the Board. “But too often they lack the key ingredient – a qualified, trained coach to fill that vital mentor role. Having a strong role model can have an outsized impact on kids facing the daily stresses of poverty. The Coaching Corps Game Changer Awards is a wonderful evening that raises awareness and funds for this issue.”

“We are pleased to be a part of the Coaching Corps Game Changer Awards, an extraordinary event that celebrates the transformative power of coaching and sports by honoring coaches and mentors who serve as positive role models who teach skill building and teamwork within safe environments for play and learning,” said Tom Stathakes, Senior Vice President and General Manager of NBC Sports Bay Area and NBC Sports California. “The commitment of Coaching Corps coaches has changed kids’ lives.  Not only do the kids have fun playing sports, they also learn the value of teamwork and a good education from dedicated adults.  We’re especially thankful for Wally Haas, the Coaching Corps coaches and for the participation of Bay Area sports teams in the Game Changer Awards.”

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – January 10, 2018 – The Oakland Athletics (@Athletics) and NBC Sports California (@NBCSAuthentic), “Home of the Authentic A’s Fan,” today announced that former A’s pitcher Dallas Braden (@DALLASBRADEN209) has joined the broadcast team as a baseball analyst.

Braden will be featured in 35 telecasts as a color commentator and 54 games in the newly created role of field analyst, reporting from a unique vantage point close to the action.  He will also continue in his role as a studio analyst for select A’s Pregame Live and A’s Postgame Live shows.

Longtime in-stadium host Kara Tsuboi (@karashotcorner) will also join the broadcast team as a sideline reporter for a limited number of home games.

“Dallas’ presence at nearly every home game in this newly created role will provide a dynamic perspective that fans have not seen before. We are excited to welcome a lifelong A to the broadcast team,” said A’s President Dave Kaval.

“Dallas Braden provides a rare combination of deep baseball knowledge, passion for the game and love for the green and gold.  He has a true connection with A’s fans, and we’re looking forward to seeing him in a much more substantial role in 2018,” said David Koppett, VP of Content Strategy for NBC Sports California.

Ray Fosse, a 33-year broadcasting veteran and multiple Emmy Award-winner who played in the majors for 12 seasons, won two World Championships (1973, 1974) with the A’s, along with two Gold Gloves (1970, 1971) and played in two All-Star Games (1970, 1971), remains NBC Sports California’s primary A’s analyst.

Braden, a Stockton native, spent five seasons with the A’s (2007-2011). On May 9, 2010, he pitched the nineteenth perfect game in MLB history when he defeated the Tampa Bay Rays in Oakland on Mother’s Day. Braden pitched for Stagg High School in Stockton, then went on to play at Texas Tech University. He was drafted by the A’s in 2004 and made his debut with the club in 2007. After his playing career, Braden worked at ESPN (2014-2017) as a studio analyst and color analyst.  Prior to the 2017 MLB season, he joined NBC Sports California as a studio analyst for the network’s signature shows A’s Pregame Live and A’s Postgame Live.

Tsuboi will be joining the broadcast team during select home games during the 50th anniversary season. She has been a member of the Athletics family since 2009, serving as the in-stadium host for home games. Tsuboi will continue in her prior role when she is not part of the NBC Sports California broadcast. Prior to her time with the A’s, Kara served as a technology reporter for CNET and CBS Interactive.
