Carr staying positive, set for surgery Tuesday morning in Los Angeles

ALAMEDA – Raiders quarterback Derek Carr is in relatively good spirits even after suffering a broken fibula late in Saturday’s victory over the Colts.

It’s extremely likely Carr is done for what’s left of this season, but Raiders head coach Jack Del Rio said on Monday the third-year pro remains optimistic.

“He’s a very positive young man,” Del Rio said. “He’s all about the team, and being there for the team. He is wishing us the best, and will do what he can to be there vocally for us. He was outstanding.”

Carr's older brother and NFL Network analyst, David Carr, said Monday on the NFL Network that Derek is in Los Angeles and will have surgery on Tuesday morning. David was in the Raiders' locker room, and said the initial recovery timetable was estimated at six to eight weeks.

"He started doing the math in his head, and he said 'That's Super Bowl week,'" David Carr said. "As a fan, I'm thinking, do the Raiders have a chance without him? For him, Derek feels so much love for this team, and he really thinks they can go out and (reach the Super Bowl). Matt McGloin has a tough road ahead of him. Everybody has to step up."

Del Rio wasn't in a giving mood in his Monday press conference, and didn’t provide information on Carr’s status.

“I’m not going to shed any more light on it,” Del Rio said. “At some point, there may be more details to follow but I don’t have any more for you today.”
