Curry getting closer to playing in a game

ALAMEDA -- Aaron Curry made it through three straight practices this week after not practicing since May with knee issues and being on the the Physically Unable to Perform list to begin the season. But that does not mean the weakside linebacker is going to play for the Raiders on Sunday against Jacksonville."I thought Curry looked well," said coach Dennis Allen. "I was impressed with the way that he looked and I do not anticipate activating him for this football game. And then we'll see where we're at next week with him."The Raiders' 21-day clock to decide whether to activate him, place him on season-ending Injured Reserve or release him began Wednesday. In practice, he has mostly worked with the scout team defense -- playing at all three linebacker spots -- and had an interception on Thursday.Curry, who underwent stem-cell treatments on both knees using bone marrow from his hips, declined through a team spokesman Thursday to speak to reporters, saying he was "not comfortable" talking until he was closer to playing. But later that afternoon he took to Twitter: "DearPeers the media is not your friend neverforget"Back in August Curry told CSNCalifornia.com the stem-cell treatments were working."It's the only thing that's helping me recover," Curry said at the time. "Without it, I'd be a lost cause. For sure.GUTIERREZ: Stem-cell therapy helping Curry's recovery"I'm just able to do things that I wasn't able to quite do in OTAs and minicamps when I was trying to fight through what I thought was just regular soreness or tendinitis. But it's a great procedure. Simple, fast, and I'm just excited about being able to bounce back as quick as I am."Rookie Miles Burris has started every game in Curry's place, though his energy would be greatly welcomed on defense.
