Injury report: Raiders LB Calhoun undergoes procedure on knee

ALAMEDA – Raiders rookie edge rusher Shilique Calhoun had a procedure on his injured knee this week and has been ruled out of Sunday’s game against the Carolina Panthers.

The procedure was relatively minor, and the third round pick is expected to return this season.

Calhoun has been the team’s third rusher off the edge, spelling Bruce Irvin or Khalil Mack in rare case where they’re off the field.

The Raiders don’t have another true edge rusher on the roster, though interior linebacker Cory James has experience rushing from the outside at Colorado State. He had 24 sacks in his college career.

Calhoun generally doesn’t play many snaps, so any reserve duty wouldn’t be extensive. He has five tackles and a half sack on defense this season.

“I think (we have) depth, and I think the guys who are playing well are going to continue to play well and they’re going to really bring the group with them,” Raiders defensive coordinator Ken Norton Jr. said. “I think that the guys are really going to step up.”

In addition to Calhoun, Raiders cornerback David Amerson missed his second straight practice with a knee injury.
