The man who was shot in the face outside University of Phoenix Stadium last Friday was a Raiders fan, Glendale, Ariz., police confirmed. Although it is unclear whether the shooting stemmed from a fan dispute, the Raiders fan, who is in stable condition, was wearing silver face paint.

"There has been absolutely no information obtained by investigators that would point to a specific conflict that occurred prior to the shooting that was a result of their differing team support," police said in a statement Monday.

However in a statement released Saturday, police said, "The incident appears to be fan-based."

The Raiders fan, 30, is still hospitalized but is expected to survive, police said. It is not certain whether the man had been in the stadium for the game before the altercation occurred in a parking lot.

The 57-year-old Cardinals fan, who was with his wife at the game before they decided to leave early, called 911 after the shooting and told police the shooting was accidental. He did not attempt to flee. A verbal altercation did occur prior to the shooting, but the shooter has not been arrested, and officers are still investigating, police said.

There was not enough compelling evidence gathered on the scene, through statements or physical evidence, to make the investigators comfortable with an arrest on the 57-year-old male, police said.

Police say they are confident they will be able to continue to make contact with the Cardinals fan.
