ALAMEDA – The Oakland Raiders have promoted Todd Downing to offensive coordinator and Jake Peetz to quarterbacks coach, the club announced Saturday.

Downing, who worked closely with Derek Carr over the previous two seasons as quarterbacks coach, enters his 17th campaign as an NFL assistant and his third with the Silver and Black. Carr has developed remarkably under Downing’s tutelage, earning consecutive Pro Bowl selections and setting numerous franchise passing records. In 2016, the third-year quarterback emerged as a Most Valuable Player candidate, passing for 3,937 yards with 28 touchdowns and just six interceptions, while piloting the league’s sixth-ranked offense and executing seven fourth-quarter comebacks, a total that ranks second in league history.

Downing came to Oakland in 2015 after serving as quarterbacks coach for the Buffalo Bills (2014) and Detroit Lions (2011-13).  A native of Eden Prairie, Minn., Downing entered the NFL as a coaching intern with Minnesota in 2001 and has held assistant positions with the Vikings (2001-05), Rams (2006-07) and Lions (2008-10).

Peetz worked closely with both Downing and Carr as assistant quarterbacks coach last season after joining the Raiders as a senior offensive assistant in 2015. Peetz came to the Silver and Black following NFL stops with the Washington Redskins (2014) and Jacksonville Jaguars (2008-12), and collegiate posts at Alabama (2013), UCLA (2007) and Santa Barbara (Calif.) City College (2006). A native of O’Neill, Neb., Peetz enters his ninth season as an NFL assistant and his first as quarterbacks coach.
