Former Raiders linebacker and current Green Bay Packers front-office exec Reggie McKenzie will join the Raiders as GM, according to a national report.

The news was reported Thursday evening on Twitter by ESPN's Adam Schefter. His post:

Raiders now plan to hire Packers director of football operations Reggie McKenzie as next general manager

ESPN.com's Jason Wilde reported McKenzie has confirmed the report, via a text message exchange.

Just traded texts with Reggie McKenzie, who confirmed @AdamSchefter's report that he'll be the new Raiders GM but declined further comment.

The 48-year-old McKenzie has been in the Packers' front office since 1994. He was a 10th-round pick of the Raiders in 1985 and played with the team from 1985 to 1988.

Because the Packers season isn't over, McKenzie would not be allowed to formalize a contract with another team until Green Bay, the No. 1 seed in the NFC, is eliminated from the postseason.

In addition to playing for the Raiders during the franchise's tenure in L.a., McKenzie played for the then-Phoenix Cardinals (1989-90) and the 49ers (1992). he also played the 1992 season with the Montreal Machine of the then-World League of American Football.

McKenzie assumed his current position in Green Bay in 2008 after 10 years as the team's director of pro personnel by former executive vice presidentgeneral manager Ron Wolf in 1997. He originally joining the Packers as a pro personnel assistant in 1994.
