Raiders promote team's former third-round pick, end Hamilton's season

The Raiders don't have many healthy linebackers.

That's why last year's third-round pick is getting a second chance. Edge rusher Shilique Calhoun was promoted from the practice squad Saturday afternoon to add depth to his position group. Calhoun's an edge rusher, and while the Raiders need inside help, he can make an immediate impact on special teams and as defensive insurance.

Cornerback Antonio Hamilton was place on injured reserve in a corresponding move. Hamilton hurt a knee in last week's opening kickoff, but didn't think his injury was long-term after the game. The Raiders signed Darius McCrary this week to fill out the defensive backfield.

Calhoun never made an impact as a rookie, and the career defensive end struggled adjusting to a strongside linebacker spot. He was invisible this preseason, and ultimately got cut before the season began. He wasn't picked up on waivers, and signed with the Silver and Black's practice squad.
