The Raiders had veteran receiver Jabar Gaffney in for a visit Wednesday, according to our corporate cousins at Pro Football Talk. The reported interest by the Raiders could mean they are hedging their bets that either Denarius Moore or Jacoby Ford or, possibly, that neither of them will be ready for the Raiders' home opener against San Diego on Monday.

Moore, who last practiced on Aug. 4, has been running on his sore right hamstring this week and Ford, who injured his left foot at Arizona on Aug. 17, began jogging on Tuesday. Also, rookie Juron Criner has a sore right ankle, leaving the Raiders with only two relatively healthy receivers in fourth-year pro Darrius Heyward-Bey and undrafted free agent rookie Rod Streater.Gaffney, meanwhile, had team-high numbers in catches (68), receiving yards (947) and receiving touchdowns (five) last year for Washington. He was trying to catch on with New England this season but was cut on Aug. 27. He also worked out for Miami. But as PFT noted, "If Gaffney is on a team's roster for Week One, his base salary for the 2012 season would be guaranteed, so teams may want to wait until after this weekend to sign him. But multiple teams are interested in signing him."Gaffney, 31, has 443 receptions for 5,622 yards and 24 TDs in his 10-year career.
