Seymour: Allen has the ‘It Factor'

Color Richard Seymour impressed. The Raiders' defensive end, who most likely has a bust with his visage on it waiting for him in Canton, talked briefly and positively about new coach Dennis Allen during Oakland's mid-June minicamp.Monday, though, Seymour spoke glowingly about the rookie head coach."Some coaches just have the 'it factor,' and Dennis Allen has it," Seymour told former Raiders quarterback Rich Gannon and Adam Schein on NFL SiriusXM Radio."I can't stress enough about everyone being on the same page."Being a more disciplined team -- the Raiders set NFL records with 163 penalties and 1,358 penalty yards last season -- was a huge reason new general manager Reggie McKenzie thought outside of the box in hiring Allen, who, at 39, is just seven years older than the highly-decorated Seymour. So why would Seymour, who is on his third coach in four years in Oakland after playing for Bill Belichick for eight years in New England, offer such high praise for Allen? Maybe because he means it.Seymour, a seven-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro, missed three weeks of voluntary OTA's in Alameda but was present for the April veterans minicamp, which was also voluntary."I met all the coaches and the new G.M. and the new regime here and I think our fans have a lot to be excited about," Seymour said last month. "I think we're headed in the right direction. We're trying to build a smart, tough, disciplined football team and I think everyone's preaching the same message and it's coming across very clear."I think we're definitely headed in the right direction."
