Seymour's definition of an ugly win

ALAMEDA -- The Raiders' identity has changed throughout the year. From bullies to tricksters to, well, down in the muck-and-mire roughnecks."Whatever is going to give us the best chance to win," veteran defensive tackle Richard Seymour said Monday. "I don't think you go into any game and say wellwhatever it takes to get the job done, that's what we have to do. Whatever is going to give us the best chance to win.'I don't say that you're going to continue to run your head into a brick wall if they have nine people in the box or whatever the case may be. You want to be smart in game-planning and I think our coaching staff has done a great job game-planning week to week. It's always different. You never know what you're going to get. I think that's an advantage for us."All of which leads to the question in the wake of the Raiders' seemingly unseemly 25-20 defeat of Chicago on Sunday-- is there such a thing as an "Ugly Win" in the NFL?
Seymour smiled."You can have ugly wins," he said. "We made it a lot tougher yesterday than it needed to be. I thought we could have put that team away a lot sooner. But we allowed them to come back into the game. Give them credit, too. They made plays."A lot of it, you don't want to have self-inflicted penalties and giving up big plays and things like that. We're all excited about where we are but there's still a lot of football left to be played. If I'm not mistaken, there's five games left. Nothing is won at this point yet, but we're excited about where we are."
