Six weeks after surgery, Campbell begins throwing

ALAMEDA -- Despite his future in Silver and Blackdom pretty much written in stone, Jason Campbell has nonetheless been a constant presence with the Raiders. The quarterback has traveled with the team and offers advice and remains the consummate professional. Even after suffering a broken collarbone on Oct. 16 against Cleveland and still being groggy following surgery the next night when the trade was made for Carson Palmer.Campbell hoped to be back in "six weeks" at the time and, well, Monday marked the six-week anniversary of the former Raiders starting QB's procedure on his right (throwing) clavicle. As such, Campbell has begun tossing a football.

"Yeah, he has been pitching it around a little bit," coach Hue Jackson said at his weekly media conference on Monday. "Not very far, but he's pitching it around a little bit and he's getting better. So, we'll see where he is here soon, too, and we'll just keep finding out about all these injured guys as we move forward."Before going down when tackled by Browns linebacker Scott Fujita, Campbell had thrown for 1,170 yards on 100 of 165 passing (60.6 percent) with six touchdowns and four interceptions and an 84.2 passer rating (his career rating is 82.8).There's a reason the Raiders have not placed the 2005 first-round draft choice out of Auburn on season-ending Injured Reserve.Asked if Campbell would then be the No. 2 QB behind Palmer, and ahead of Kyle Boller and rookie Terrelle Pryor, Jackson smiled and winked."Let's see when he gets back," Jackson said.
