ALAMEDA -- Sebastian Janikowski's troublesome left hamstring landed the placekicker back on the injury report and he was one of 16 Raiders listed. Nine players did not practice. In fact, Janikowski has been slowed since the week of Oct. 17 with the injury. And yet, he was feted as the AFC's special teams player of the month on Wednesday after successfully converting 10 of 11 field goals in November and all 10 of his extra-point attempts.
"I don't think anyone has played as injured as he's played," quarterback Carson Palmer observed of Janikowski. "He is playing at about 60 percent, maybe 50 percent. That doesn't happen. For him to suck it up and go out there and take two steps on the kickoff and just try not to tear his hamstring in half and get his team in the right position, and get his defense set up with a longer field, for him to do that for the team, guys recognize that and appreciate that."Sunday, Janikowski kicked a franchise-record six field goals in the Raiders' 25-20 defeat of Chicago."Maybe he kicked too many field goals," coach Hue Jackson said with a laugh. "You never know. He did an excellent job. Hopefully we'll get him back out here soon. He'll be fine."I told you, I'm always going to be cautious with these players."Before his injury, the big-legged Janikowski, who was also the AFC's special teams player of the month for September, had touchbacks on 19 of his 34 kickoffs.
