Will Waufle's promotion be recognized by new coach?

ALAMEDA -- One of Hue Jackson's first acts as coach of the Raiders was to promote defensive line coach Mike Waufle to assistant head coach.Thing was, the promotion was never made official, and never publicized as such so Waufle never received the recognition in the public eye. Now, with Jackson officially fired and much of the defensive staff Jackson "fired" attending the media conference, it all begs the question -- who stays, and who goes? And if he stays, would Waufle retain his "officially unrecognized" title?Defensive coordinator Chuck Bresnahan was in attendance, as were assistant coachsafeties Kevin Ross, assistant linebackers coach Ricky Hunley, Waufle, special teams coordinator John Fassel and assistant coachcornerbacks Rod Woodson was also seen at the facility. While there have been reports the purportedly "fired" coaches -- Bresnahan, Ross, Woodson and linebacker coach Greg Biekert -- are simply serving out the final two weeks of their respective contracts, new general manager Reggie McKenzie said the choice to fill out a new staff will come down to the new head coach."I'm not going to have any say-so," McKenzie said. "What I'm going to do is empower the head coach to hire his staff, the best possible staff that he can hire. We're not going to tie the guy's hands and tell him he has to hire this guy or this guy. It wouldn't be fair to the new head coach. The head coach will have the right to hire any coach that he wants."That's a departure from the past under Al Davis, who would oftentimes hire assistants for the head coach.
