ATLANTA (AP) -- San Francisco closer Brian Wilson flew to Florida on Wednesday to have his ailing right elbow checked out by the same doctor who performed surgery eight years ago.Wilson has some inflammation but no serious damage, manager Bruce Bochy said before the injury plagued Giants faced the Atlanta Braves. The right-hander was not available for the game. He could return to the mound Thursday."He just felt a little tenderness," Bochy said. "We're just being cautious. The results came out well. They showed a little inflammation in the elbow, so we're going to give him a couple days off."Wilson gave up three runs in the ninth inning Monday night, a 5-4 loss to the Braves. He headed to Pensacola, Fla., to be examined by Dr. James Andrews, who performed Tommy John surgery on Wilson in 2003.Wilson is 6-4 with a 3.19 ERA and 35 saves this season."He just wanted to get it checked out by the man who did it," Bochy said. "We didn't want to risk putting him back out there without having it evaluated."

Report: Giants interview Chili Davis about becoming new hitting coach

Chili Davis spent the first seven years of his big league career with Giants where he made two All-Star teams and hit 101 home runs.

Fast forward 37 years from his debut in 1981, and Davis may now be the one teaching Giants how to hit balls over the wall in 2018. The Giants met with Davis Thursday about becoming the team's new hitting coach, according to The Mercury News

The only problem is, there is no open vacancy on the Giants' coaching staff.

Current hitting coach Hensley Meulens is a candidate for the Tigers' head coaching vacancy, but reports surfaced Thursday that former Twins manager Ron Gardenhire will take that role. Meulens could become a candidate to manage another team or take a different spot on the Giants' staff.

The Giants' offense sputtered in 2017. Overall, the offense ranked 23rd in batting average (.249), 29th in runs scored (639) and last in home runs (128). By comparison, the Pirates were the next worst team at hitting home runs in 2017 and still launched 23 more long balls than the Giants.

Over his 19-year career, Davis hit 350 home runs. He has spent the last three years as the Red Sox's hitting instructor.

The Raiders are aiming to snap a four-game losing streak as they take on the first-place Chiefs Thursday night under the lights in Oakland. And they will be thin in the middle of their defense.

Cory James and Marquel Lee are both inactive, but a well-known new face is ready to go.

Oakland will turn to veteran NaVorro Bowman, along with two undrafted rookies, Woodson Luster and Nicholas Morrow, to man the middle.

The following players have been ruled out tonight vs. the Chiefs:

Cornerback Gareon Conley

Quarterback Connor Cook

Linebacker Cory James

Linebacker Marquel Lee

Tackle Marshall Newhouse

Defensive End Jihad Ward
