Ottawa Senators owner Eugene Melnyk wants his money back from Dany Heatley.

Heatley, who demanded a trade from Ottawa in the 2009 offseason, only to turn down a deal to Edmonton before finally landing with the Sharks, was paid a 4 million roster bonus by the Senators that summer.

According to the Ottawa Sun (via QMI Agency), Melnyk and Heatley will go in front of independent arbitrator George Nicolau to determine if Heatley has to give it back. Melnyk filed a grievance nearly three years ago, and the two sides are now trying to set a date for the hearing, which has already been canceled once.

Once Nicolau has heard the case, which will be defended by the NHLPA, he will have 30 days to hand down a ruling. Melnyk said Saturday hes optimistic hell get his bonus money back.Im confident enough that when you think youre right, you fight, said Melnyk. In this case, were right and we fight.

The article goes on to say that should Melnyk win the hearing, the Sharks may be on the hook for the bonus money. Heatley was traded to the Minnesota Wild over the summer.
