Logan Couture has been selected as the 2011-2012 Brocade Sharks Player of the Year, the team announced Saturday night.
The award is voted upon by the Bay Area media.
Antti Niemi won the award last year, and Patrick Marleau won it back-to-back in '09 and '10.

Entering Saturday night's regular season finale vs. the Kings, Couture is tied for first on the club in goals (31, Pavelski), is first in power-play goals (11), second in points (63, Thornton -- 77), and second in game-winning goals (5).
He is also tied for eighth among all NHL forwards with 76 blocked shots.
The 23-year old was the lone Sharks selection to this year's All-Star Game.
He finished runner-up to Carolina's Jeff Skinner in the Calder Trophy voting a season ago -- awarded annually to the NHL's top rookie.

This season, Skinner netted 20 goals and 24 assists, but only played in 64 games.
Andrew Desjardins was selected as this year's PlayStation Sharks Rookie of the Year.
The award is also voted upon by the media.
Entering Saturday night's finale, the 25-year old played in 75 games this season, registering 17 points (4 goals, 13 assists).
Patrick Marleau was the winner of the Sharks Fan Favorite Award for the second consecutive season.
The award is determined by fan voting at sjsharks.com, and nearly 7,000 votes were submitted.
