Galiardi leaves team in Germany

Sharks forward TJ Galiardi has left his team in Germany and returned to North America following a knee injury, according to a report in the Calgary Herald.

The injury does not appear to be serious, as Galiardi was skating with his former WHL team, the Calgary Hitmen, on Wednesday. He had been playing with German club Bietigheim-Bissingen SC, where he had three goals and three assists in seven games.

Galiardi, a Calgary native, played for the Hitmen in 2007-08.

I figured I'd get some practices in with my old team, Galiardi told the Herald. I feel a little old right now. But thats OK. The guys are good guys. All hockey teams are fun and its only a matter of time before we start chirping each other.

Galiardi, 24, is the second Sharks player known to have suffered an injury during the lockout, as Joe Pavelski missed a few games with his KHL team in Minsk after banging up his knee. Pavelski has since returned to action.

Like everyone else, Galiardi is hoping for a quick resolution to the ongoing labor battle. The NHL and NHLPA were meeting with federal mediators for a second straight day on Thursday.

Of course wed all rather be playing right now rather than doing what each individual guy is doing, he said. Its a little frustrating. But the thing is, were not going to sign a bad deal just so we can play. It makes no sense and I think thats kind of what we did on the last one and were kind of still paying for it.

Galiardi was acquired by the Sharks as part of a trade from Colorado at the trade deadline last February, and although his production was a disappointing one goal in 17 regular season and playoff games, hes among a group of young players expected to have a key role in the team when play resumes.

He signed a one-year contract extension with the Sharks over the summer that would have paid him 950,000 this season.
