Murray, Vandermeer out vs. Dallas

SAN JOSEThe Sharks will be without defensemen Douglas Murray and Jim Vandermeer on Thursday night when they host the Dallas Stars.

Murray is nursing a right hand injury that was likely the result of a blocked shot in the 5-3 loss to Florida last Saturday. He missed Tuesdays 2-1 loss to Minnesota.

Vandermeer is out with an upper-body injury that is not expected to be long term, according to Todd McLellan.

The Sharks defense pairs against Dallas are unclear, as the team had an optional skate on Thursday morning. However, Dan Boyle and Marc-Edouard Vlasic were paired together on Tuesday, as were Justin Braun and Jason Demers. That leaves Colin White and Brent Burns as a potential pair, after Burns and Vandermeer played together against the Wild.

McLellan liked his team's defensive effort much better against Minnesota as compared with the turnover-filled game against the Panthers.

The six that played did a much better job than they did the prior game against Florida," he said on Thursday morning.

Antti Niemi will start in net.
