Shane Doan is heading back to the Phoenix Coyotes for a 16th season.

Arizona Sports 620's John Gambadoro is reporting that the 35-year-old has agreed to a four-year deal with the Coyotes worth 21.5 million.

The deal will only become official if the Coyotes finalize their sale to former San Jose Sharks owner and prospective buyer Greg Jamison by September 15.

Doan has made it clear that he desired to stay with Phoenix throughout free agency, but reports indicated that the Sharks were interested in acquiring Doan's services this offseason.

He has reportedly turned down much bigger offers from the Los Angeles Kings, Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres that would have paid him 7.5 million per year.

Doan has played 17 seasons in the NHL, most recently helping lead the Coyotes to the franchise's first Pacific division championship, as well as two playoff series victories before falling to the eventual Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings in the Western Conference Finals.

He scored 22 goals and 28 assists in 79 games last season.
