The Sharks have activated Antero Niittymaki and assigned him to Worcester on a conditioning assignment.

Niittymaki appeared in 24 games last season and posted a 12-7-3 record, with a .896 save percentage.

The seven-year NHL veteran is recovering from offseason hip surgery.

It is unclear what the Sharks will do with current backup goalie Thomas Greiss, who is 4-4 this season with a 2.37 goals-against average, and a .918 save percentage.

Starting goalie Antti Niemi is 11-6-2 with a 2.30 goals-against average, and .920 save percentage.

In another transaction, defenseman Jim Vandermeer has been placed on injured reserve with an upper body injury, where he joins defenseman Douglas Murray (right hand). Vandermeer has missed the last three games.
