Torrey Mitchell left the Sharks' 4-3 win over the Devils Friday with what the Sharks are calling an upper body injury.

Mitchell was pinned against the boards by Devils right wing Nick Palmieri in the first minute of the game. Mitchell's left shoulder was jammed awkwardly against the boards, and he crumpled to the ice after the hit.

Mitchell was helped to the Sharks dressing room. He did not return to the game.

Palmieri received a two-minute minor penalty for checking to the head.

When asked for an update on Mitchell after the game, head coach Todd McLellan could no acquiesce, saying, "Obviously he didn't return, first shift in, so I'm sure he's a little bit sore. But I don't have an update for you."

Mitchell, who played the first two games of the season on the third line, was promoted to the second line before Martin Havlat was cleared to play his first game Friday.
