Sharks recall Carpenter, Meier assigned to AHL

The Sharks have added an extra body ahead of their five-game road trip that begins in Columbus on Saturday.

Ryan Carpenter was recalled from the Barracuda on Friday morning, and will be available for the game against the Blue Jackets. If everyone is healthy, it’s unlikely Carpenter will play after San Jose’s strong four-line attack in its season-opening 2-1 win against the Kings on Wednesday.

Carpenter, 25, was reassigned to the Barracuda on Oct. 3. He had 18 goals and 37 assists for 55 points and a plus-20 rating in 66 games with the Sharks’ AHL affiliate last season. He played one game for San Jose, his NHL debut, on Dec. 11 against Minnesota.

The Sharks have 14 forwards on the trip, including Micheal Haley, who did not play against the Kings. After Columbus, the Sharks visit the Rangers, Islanders, Penguins and Red Wings.

The Sharks also announced that rookie Timo Meier, who had a chance to make the opening night roster before he came down with mono, has been assigned to the Barracuda. The ninth overall pick from the 2015 draft had been skating in recent days alone with Sharks development coach Mike Ricci.
