The Sharks have scheduled a press conference for former captain Owen Nolan next Tuesday. Sharks GM Doug Wilson and other "special guests" will gather at HP Pavilion at 2:30 p.m.
No reason was given for the press conference except for an announcement regarding the future of Nolan's hockey career. The natural assumption, though pure speculation, is that it will be to announce his retirement as a Shark.

Prior to this season, Nolan was invited to a tryout with the Vancouver Canucks, but he was released to free agency in September after an impressive 18-year NHL career that spanned six teams. The 6-foot-1, 214-pound right winger is the author of 422 career goals.
He was the first overall draft pick in 1990 (Quebec Nordiques), and was traded from the Colorado Avalanche to San Jose nine games into the 1995-'96 season for defenseman Sandis Ozolinsh.
Nolan, 39, spent the better part of eight years with San Jose, earning the captain's "C" and amassing a total of 206 goals and 245 assists. He holds the franchise records most power play goals (75) and shorthanded goals (14).
His best career year came in the 1999-2000 season when he finished with 84 points and tied for second in the NHL with 44 goals. That season the Sharks reached the playoffs as the eighth seed and upset the top-seeded Blues behind Nolan's six goals in the series.

Nolan appeared in five All-Star games, none more memorable than the one in 1997 when he set a record scoring two goals eight seconds apart. Then, on a breakaway later in the game, he called his shot, pointed to the top corner before slotting his third goal of the game past Dominik Hasek, right in the spot he called.
