The search to replace Jim Harbaugh continued at Stanford this week with a source close to the program reporting that special teams coach Brian Polian interviewed for the vacant position of head football coach.

Polian is the son of longtime NFL front office executive Bill Polian.

Last season was Polian's first at Stanford after spending the previous five seasons at Notre Dame, where he served as the special teams coordinator (2008-09), inside linebackersspecial teams coach (2007), head special teams coachlinebackers assistant (2006) and head special teams coachdefensive backs assistant (2005).

Harbaugh was hired by the 49ers as their head coach after leading the Cardinal to a 12-1 season and a victory in the Orange Bowl over Virginia Tech.
