ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) -- New Mexico's baseball program is planning a tribute for Giants outfielder Cody Ross, who grew up in Carlsbad, N.M.

Ross will be recognized during halftime of New Mexico's basketball game against BYU on Jan. 29.

New Mexico baseball coach Ray Birmingham plans to recognize Ross as an honorary Lobo, while his father, Ken Ross, will be presented with a UNM lettermen's jacket.

The elder Ross played football at New Mexico as a sophomore in 1969 before sustaining a career-ending injury. He was a starting strong safety and had three interceptions on the season, including one for a touchdown against Army.

A banquet is planned to benefit New Mexico's baseball program.
