OAKLAND -- Steve Kerr returned to the bench for Game 2 of the NBA Finals Sunday and the Warriors presented their coach with a 132-113 victory that has them halfway to a championship.
Kevin Durant fired in a game-high 33 points and Stephen Curry posted a triple-double -- 32 points, 11 assists, 10 rebounds -- to pace the offense as the Warriors took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.
Klay Thompson shook off his shooting slump to score 22 points in his most productive two-way game of the postseason. Draymond Green tossed in 12 points and Shaun Livingston and Ian Clark added 10 apiece as the Warriors pushed their postseason record to 14-0.
The Warriors overcame 20 turnovers, 13 of which came in the first half, by outrebounding the Cavs 53-41 and outshooting them 51.7 percent to 45 percent.
LeBron James submitted a triple-double -- 29 points, 14 assists, 11 rebounds -- to lead the Cavaliers. Kevin Love put in 27 points and Kyrie Irving finished with 19.
Though Durant anchored the offense and had a mammoth game overall, Thompson’s reemergence as a scorer also proved a difference-maker for Warriors.
Durant’s line: 33 points (13-of-22 shooting from the field, 4-of-8 beyond the arc, 3-of-3 from the line), 13 rebounds, six assists, five blocks and three steals. He played 41 minutes and finished plus-21.
Thompson’s line: 22 points (8-of-12 from the field, 4-of-7 from deep, 2-of-3 from the line) and seven rebounds. He played 36 minutes and was plus-24.
After a layup by Irving pulled the Cavs within four, 86-82, with 5:42 left in the third quarter, the Warriors responded with a 16-6 run, closing the quarter with a 102-88 lead.
The Warriors led by as much as 22 points in the fourth, and Cleveland got no closer than 12.
Warriors: No injuries reported. C Damian Jones and F Kevon Looney were placed on the inactive list.
Cavaliers: C Edy Tavares (R hand fracture) was listed as out and placed on the inactive list with G Kay Felder.
The teams meet Wednesday at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland for Game 6. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. Pacific.
