McHale among candidates for Warriors' opening

Add Kevin McHale's name to the list of Warriors' coaching candidates.According to Yahoo! Sports, Warriors general manager Larry Riley and assistant general manager Bob Myers had an informal discussion about the team's head coaching opening.On April 27, the Warriors announced they were not picking up the option of Keith Smart for the 2011-12 season.The Warriors will also reportedly meet with Boston Celtics assistant and former New Jersey Nets head coach Lawrence Frank next week. McHale has been both the coach and the general manager of the Minnesota Timberwolves. He now works as an analyst for NBA.TV and TNT.The Warriors have already met with former Cleveland Cavaliers coach Mike Brown, Dallas assistant coach Dwane Casey, and Los Angeles Lakers assistants Brian Shaw and Chuck Person.The Warriors are also said to be interested in Mike Malone, assistant coach with the New Orleans Hornets.Early in the process, the Warriors reached out to former Utah Jazz coach Jerry Sloan and former Knicks and Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy, but both declined to be interviewed. Warriors owner Joe Lacob has yet to take part in any discussions with candidates up to this point.
