Mychal Thompson wants Klay to attack rim more, cites specific goal

When you think of Klay Thompson, you immediately think of one thing:

Shooter.

But according to his father, Klay needs to attack the basket more often.

"A lot of guys take him off the dribble and try to draw fouls on him. He needs to return the favor and get to the line," Mychal Thompson said on KNBR 680 on Tuesday. "He's a 90 percent (88.9) free throw shooter. He needs to shoot two free throws per quarter.

"That should be your goal."

In 2014-15, Klay averaged a career-high 3.3 free throw attempts per game, and shot them at an 88 percent clip.

Each of the last two seasons, he attempted 2.8 per contest.

This year? Klay is averaging a career-low 0.9 free throw attempts per game.

"Go to the basket and look to get fouled," Mychal said. "Look to dunk on guys every now and then just to mix it up and keep guys honest  on defense."
