Steve Kerr confident Warriors can win a playoff series without Steph Curry

OAKLAND -- No Stephen Curry. No Kevin Durant. No Draymond Green. No Klay Thompson. And no sweat on Steve Kerr’s brow.

The playoffs are 19-20 days away and Kerr is confident in his belief the Warriors will be ready to roll, even if Curry misses is the entire first round.

“We’re perfectly capable of winning and beating anybody, regular season or playoffs, anybody in the league without Steph,” Kerr said Monday after practice. “Our guys know that.

“It’s going to be hard to beat anybody without Steph, KD, Klay and Draymond.”

Therein lies the faith. If Durant, Green and Thompson return by season’s end, the Warriors will have three of their All-Stars back in the fold. That’s enough to win a series against most playoff teams.

The Warriors this season are 41-10 when Curry starts, 13-9 when he doesn’t. There is more to the equation, though, as Kerr pointed out.

“How many of those losses did we not have Klay, KD or Draymond? he asked.”

When the Warriors are without Curry and Thompson: 2-4.

When they are without Curry and Green: 6-1.

When they are without Curry and Durant: 2-3.

When they are without any of the four All-Stars: 0-1.

When Durant, Green and Thompson play but Curry does not: 6-4.

“When you’ve got everybody injured, it’s hard to win,” Kerr said. “It’s hard enough for anybody to win. But we’re very dependent on our top guys, obviously. We’re top-heavy with our scoring.

“As long as we have everybody else, we have a pretty good idea of what we need to do. It’s defend like crazy, take care of the ball and execute on offense.”
