Vince Carter opens up on spurning Warriors: ‘They couldn't match…'

Vince Carter was linked to the Warriors throughout the summer. He even openly spoke about the possibility, telling ESPN's The Jump (via Golden State of Mind) that he was "open for it," but wanted to go someplace where he would "sit on the bench."

Ultimately, that's what kept the 40-year-old from joining the defending NBA champions, as he revealed in a diary for The Undefeated on Tuesday.

"The opportunity was there [to sign with Golden State], but they couldn’t match what was offered [in Sacramento]," the Kings forward wrote.  "I just didn’t want to sit on the bench. I wanted to be able to play. It’s easy to sit on the bench and ride it out. But it just wasn’t the right thing. "

Carter signed a one-year, $8 million deal with Sacramento this summer. In 11 games this season, all off of the bench, Carter is averaging 2.6 points in 12.3 minutes per game.

He briefly turned back the clock with a breakaway dunk against Golden State on Monday. Carter contemplated going for a reverse or windmill, but wrote in The Undefeated that he didn't want to go viral for the wrong reasons.

"Those are things that I know I can still do without a problem. But I was like, ‘Man, if you don’t make this, what are they going to say next,'" Carter wrote. "If I missed a windmill [dunk], they would start pulling clips of all the windmills that I made 12, 15 years ago."
