When will ‘Linsanity' end?

Share

"Linsanity" is still going strong, as we outlined in an earlier Warriors Talk post, but the question is, when will "Linsanity" end?

A couple of factors are at play here:

1) Carmelo Anthony is going to be returning to the Knicks' lineup, likely in the next week. While they don't play the same position, and while we think Lin will be more than fine deferring to Carmelo and Amare Stoudemire, it is something to keep an eye on. Though you have to admit, the mere question "Can Carmelo Anthony and Jeremy Lin play together?" is pretty comical.

2) Baron Davis will be back soon. Don't laugh. The Knicks signed Davis and drafted Iman Shumpert to man the point guard position. Obviously Lin will get every chance to hold onto the job, but if he starts to struggle, the Knicks have plenty of other options (even if they aren't the best options), if they want to go in another direction.

3) The Knicks' schedule will get a lot harder in the near future. From Feb. 23 until March 17, New York will face top teams such as Miami, Boston, Dallas, San Antonio, Philadelphia, Portland, Chicago and Milwaukee (twice). It'll be interesting to see how Lin holds up during that stretch, which includes a three-games-in-four-nights slate with road games against the Celtics, Mavericks and Spurs.

4) Lin is committing a lot of turnovers - 36 in his first six starts, to be exact. It is important to note that the Knicks' offense commands a lot of the point guard, particularly with Anthony currently out and Stoudemire sidelined for a couple of games recently. But if Lin doesn't get his turnovers under control, that could be a problem moving forward.

5) On the other side of the coin, when is the last time there was a "one-hit wonder" in the NBA? Seriously, can you think of a player who starred for two weeks and was never heard from again? Or a player who was elite for a month and then fizzled out? Basketball is not like baseball or hockey in that sense. For the most part, when it comes to basketball, if you can play, you can play.
