Barry Zito allowed three runs on seven hits over 7.2 innings in his first rehab start for the Single-A San Jose Giants.

Zito was placed on the 15-day DL on August 1 with an aggravated right mid-foot strain, the same injury that sent him to the DL in April.

It was a rough 1st inning for Zito who allowed three hits and a two-run HR, putting him behind the eight ball early.

However, he was able to settle in and find a groove, allowing just one run over the next 6.2 innings.

He took the loss as the San Jose Giants fell to the Bakersfield Blaze 4-2.

Zito also walked two batters while striking out seven.
