3 Up, 3 Down: Nearing the end

Trenni Kusnierek looks at the Red Sox as the end of the season comes into view.

As difficult as the season has been, the Sox have seen legitimate signs of promise from some of their young stars. The "3 UP" for this week are all young players who are likely to play central roles in the organization for years to come.

Clay Buchholz has allowed just one earned run in his last two starts, going seven strong innings in each.

Ryan Lavarnway has contributed at the plate with seven RBI in the last week.

And Jose Iglesias found his swing with a 3-for-4 night on Thursday against the Rays, including his first Major League home run.

It isn't all good news though as Kusnierek points out the "3 Down."

Bobby V's unusual antics land him in his customary spot on the list, joined by Daniel Bard and Andrew Bailey.
