All quiet for Bruins as deadline nears

WILMINGTON, Mass. With just minutes to go before the NHL trade deadline, things continue to remain quiet with the Boston Bruins.

There have been whispers about Carolina defenseman Jaroslav Spacek potentially coming back to Boston as depth defensemaninjury insurance, but the available blue line options are dwindling for the Black and Gold. Dallas' Sheldon Souray is also available if the Bruins opt to go that route.

Colorado forward David Jones is a potential target to help the Bruins' current crop of forwards, which is hurting with Nathan Horton and Rich Peverley out.

But no moves made as of yet by Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli, and Bruins coach Claude Julien said he was prepared to move forward with a Stanley-Cup winning nucleus with or without new additions.

I called a couple of players into my office to look over video and I had to tell them right away it was just video. They hadnt been traded. It isnt a fun time. Everybody headed right into the lounge after practice to find out what was going on, said Claude Julien. I take it as a good sign that nobody wants to leave. Were going to do what we can to improve the team, and if its nothing we still like our team.

There are things that could happen today and things that might not happen. If we make a move it will only make us better.

Forwards Paul Gaustad, Ryan Malone, Mike Knuble are still names potentially available, but T.J. Galiardi and Daniel Winnik have been taken off the board in a move sending both Colorado forwards to the San Jose Sharks.

Chiarelli is still working the phones attempting to make a move, but the lack of available draft picks this summer, the dearth of real juicy talent at the AHL level, and the unwillingness to move their own roster players have truly limited their place in the trade market.
