Boston College, which defeated Maine in an overtime thriller for the Hockey East championship Saturday night, is the top seed in the Northeast Region of the NCAA hockey tournament and will play Alaska-Fairbanks Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in Worcester in the opening round of the tourney.
The NCAA selections and pairings were announced Sunday afternoon. Yale, Vermont and New Hampshire were the other New England teams receiving invitations to the 16-team field.
Yale also will play at Worcester -- the Bulldogs are the region's third seed -- and will face North Dakota Saturday at 5 p.m. New Hampshire faces Cornell Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Albany, and Vermont plays Wisconsin Friday at 9 p.m. in St. Paul, Minn.
