WILMINGTON -- Talk of the Bruins acquiring a defenseman before the trade deadline was a topic of discussion in the team's locker room following Wednesday's practice. That type of move would most likely send someone packing.

Some believe it's not worth worrying about, because it's out of their hands.

"You don't believe anything until it happens," said Blake Wheeler. "That's kind of what I've learned at least. The rumors you hear, never happen. And the ones you don't hear about, those ones seem to happen.

"From our standpoint, I think our focus is, we have games to play. And we have points to earn. We can't worry about what's being written about in the papers and online blogs and stuff. If we start worrying about things we can't control, we'll start to slip. We've already lost three straight, so the most important thing for us, is to start winning, and whatever happens from other standpoints is going to happen. that's out of our control."

"If you get traded, you get traded," said Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk. "That's the business of the game, and you have to deal with it."

For others, it's something that's running through their heads, whether they want to admit it or not.

"I know it weighs on players minds all the time, when you hear rumors circulating on your team," said coach Claude Julien. "At the same time, you want the players to be professionals and deal with the issues as professionals. It's out of your control.

"You really have to take that approach and say, 'You know what, it's one day at a time. Right now I've got to do my job, and let the people that make those decisions, that are out of my control, make them.' "

As of Wednesday afternoon, the only decision that's been made, trade-wise, is the acquisition of Kelly, for a 2011 second-round pick.

"It's definitely something that we feel is going to help our hockey club," said Julien. "He's an experienced player. He plays center, plays the wing, he takes a lot of draws. He has playoff experience. He does a lot of things that, I liked his grit and his compete level, so certainly, a great addition to our hockey club."

Patrice Bergeron was the only other Bruins player missing from Wednesday's practice, but Julien called it a "maintenance day" and said it was "nothing serious."
