CSNNE.comMONTREALHere are five thoughts from the first period with the Bruins trailing the Canadiens by a 2-0 score at the Bell Centre after 20 minutes of ridiculous intensity.1)Wondering whats going on with the Bruins goaltending situation. If Tim Thomas hurt his left hand today that would be a huge blow to the Bs at this point in the season. Well have to wait until after the game to find out, but he was clearly favoring his left hand a bit during skate today.2)Johnny Boychuk pays the team penance for all of the fights that went down the last time these teams played, and drops the gloves with Ryan White after going for an open ice hit on P.K. Subban. Boychuk was handled pretty thoroughly by White in the extended bout, and pretty much showed that hes not fighter many painted him as after his last dance with Jaroslav Spacek.3)Where did Lars Eller come from? The young forward has been quiet most of the year, but hes saving his best for when the Bruins need it most after coming over in the Jaroslav Halak trade. Both goals are a product of the Habs simply hustling and forcing the Bruins into mistakes.4)Tuukka Rask looking a little shaky in the first period amid the storm coming from Montreal. Looked a little off with his angles, and allowed a sliver of space for Eller to find room on the first rebound. The second goal goes completely on defensive breakdowns with the puck by Rich Peverley and Tomas Kaberle. Rask is at his best when he's a "quiet" goaltender seemingly not moving much at all while making saves, but he's been jumpy out of the net and really off on his angles.5)Rask did however make a big stop on Brian Gionta right at the end of the first period that could have made it an insurmountable lead in the raucous Bell Centre. The Finnish netminder finally looked comfortable, but hes not going to have much success if the Bs defense doesnt tighten up in front of him.
