CSNNE.comBOSTONHere are five thoughts from the second period with the Bruins trailing the Rangers by a 1-0 score at TD Garden after 40 competitive minutes of hockey.1)Not the most disciplined game of the year for the Bruins, who have relied on Tuukka Rask to keep them in the game after two periods as theyve stumbled their way through the post-Habs tilt. Milan Lucic took a slashing penalty on Brandon Dubinsky after getting thrown into the boards by Dan Girardi at the other end of the ice, but that actually seemed to wake the Bs up a little bit as well. Should make for an interesting third period.2)The best bids for the Bruins are coming shorthanded while killing off three power plays for the Rangers. Thats certainly one positive aspect of this game: the Boston PK looks like theyre getting some of their teeth and effectiveness back. The best chance came when Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand rushed in short-handed, but Bergeron was knocked to his knees as he went in for the shot. The bid ended up going wide right and Bergeron crashed into Henrik Lundqvist, who was a bit shaken and worked on by the trainers following the collision. No penalties on either side during the play.3)Three shots on net for Tyler Seguin in 8:59 through the first two periods. The 19-year-old honestly looks like hes playing at a different speed the way hes flying through the offensive and defensive zones without the puck. Hes tied with Dennis Seidenberg for the team lead in shots tonight.4)Still no shots for Bostons top line through two periods: that needs to change in the third if the Bruins hope to push things into overtime.5)Henrik Lundqvist has had to make only 14 saves, and many of them have been long shots from the points designed to simply put something on net and get a face-off. The Bruins need to get a lot more going in front of the net traffic-wise if theyre hoping to break the seal on the Rangers.
