WILMINGTONThe news wasnt all that bad for Steve Kampfer on Friday, as the puck-moving defenseman learned hell miss 2-4 weeks with a sprained MCL in his left knee.

Kampfer suffered the injury during a third period collision with Ottawa defenseman Jared Cowen, and had to be helped off the ice after playing an excellent preseason game from the Bs backline. The move knocks Kampfer out for the first few weeks of the season, and means that Matt Bartkowski has secured the seventh defensemen spot out of training camp after being the last guy cut during camp last year.

Kampfer suffered a right knee injury at the end of last season that knocked him out for the first few rounds of the playoffs, but he was fully healed by the time the conference finals rolled around.
