BOSTON -- The first potentially serious injury of the preseason occurred for the Bruins on Thursday night as Steve Kampfer injured his left knee after an awkward collision with the powerfully built Jared Cowen in the third period of Bostons 2-1 loss to the Senators at TD Garden.

Kampfer basically did a split on the ice and then had to be helped off the ice and down the runway by a pair of his teammates. Kampfer didnt appear again in the third period after a good performance in his battle for the seventh defensemen spot on Bostons roster, and is set for an MRI on Friday morning that will yield more information on the injurys severity.

Coach Claude Julien didnt want to overstate Kampfers injury, but it didnt look good as he was limping off the ice. Kampfer suffered a right knee injury late last season that knocked him out of the first two rounds of the playoffs, so this marks a whole new issue for the young Bs defenseman.
