Sunday, July 10: Did Leafs come on too strong with Stamkos?

Here are all the links from around the hockey world, and what I’m reading while waiting for Bruins development camp to get started next week.

*Larry Brooks has the Florida Panthers going on a spending spree retaining their players, which seems to be a clear message to their fan base that things are now different with the re-branded Panthers. They are investing in their team, and putting together a winning product for their fans. This can’t be anything but good for the NHL.

*PHT writer James O’Brien has NBC Sports play-by-play legend Doc Emrick getting to live out a wish and calling a game for his beloved Pittsburgh Pirates.

*The Blue Jackets need a big comeback from their veteran players if things are going to be different in Columbus this season.

*Meet the Team USA Women’s Hockey Team that captured the gold medal in the 2016 IIHF Hockey Championships.

*Gary Joyce says that everybody is wrong about their negative impressions of incoming Hall of Famer Eric Lindros after a lifetime of Lindros building up evidence to the contrary. Okay then.

*Steve Simmons wonders if the Toronto Maple Leafs came on a little too strong with their free agent pitch for Steven Stamkos.

*Ken Campbell is pretty clearly in favor of fighting getting stamped out of hockey, and it looks like that’s exactly what is going on at the AHL level given some of the new rules concerning fighting for this season.

*For something completely different: if an athlete punches a fan in the head in NBA/NFL/MLB/NHL, people would be calling for that athlete to be kicked out of the league.
