Horford (concussion protocol) out for Celtics Wednesday vs. Bulls

BOSTON -- The Boston Celtics will be without Al Horford tonight after a blow to the head that has landed him in the NBA’s concussion protocol program.

The Celtics said Horford reported being hit in the head on Monday during practice and was “asymptomatic Monday evening and during the pre-practice period on Tuesday and he was subsequently cleared to practice.”

But apparently the symptoms resurfaced in practice which resulted in the 6-foot-10 forward being removed from practice. The Celtics said he was evaluated last night by the team’s physicians who then placed him in the league’s concussion protocol program.

Without Horford, the Celtics will be significantly weaker in the frontcourt which was a problem last time they played Chicago and lost, 105-99.

Head coach Brad Stevens will likely go with Tyler Zeller or Jonas Jerebko in place of Horford.

Horford, Boston’s prized free agent signing this season, is averaging 12.0 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game.
