Celtics waive Mickey as they clear cap room to officially sign Hayward

As expected, the Celtics have officially waived forward Jordan Mickey as they free up salary-cap space to officially sign and introduce Gordon Hayward.

Mickey, 23, 6-8, 235, a second-round pick from LSU in 2015 (33rd overall), totaled just 41 games in his two seasons with the Celtics, including 25 last season when he averaged 1.5 points, 1.4 rebounds and 5:38 minutes per game.

With the Mickey move clearing $1.5 million of cap space and the Avery Bradley-for-Marcus Morris trade official, the Celtics now need to officially sign Hayward, free agent center Aron Baynes, German forward Daniel Theis and 2016 first-rounder Guerschon Yaubsele.

The C’s also need to make a decision on guard Demetrius Jackson before Saturday, when the 2016 second-round pick from Notre Dame’s $1.35M deal becomes fully guaranteed.
