Celtics forward Jaylen Brown was the leading scorer for Team World as his 15 points led the group of NBA stars over Team Africa 108-97 in the second NBA Africa Game Saturday in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Team Africa’s roster included NBA players born in Africa as well as second-generation African players. Victor Oladipo, traded to the Indiana Pacers from the Oklahoma City Thunder last month, led Team Africa with 28 points and was named the game's MVP.
Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks was captain of Team World. Former UConn guard Kemba Walker of the Charlotte Hornets had 10 points for Team World.
Brown, 20, the second-year forward from Cal, traveled with his mother for his first trip to Africa. He had three rebounds, three assists and two steals to go along with his 6-for-10 shooting from the field (1-for-3 on 3-pointers) and 2-for-5 from the free-throw line). He also had a highlight-reel, no-look scoop shot (see tweet/video below) and the final points of the game on a thunderous dunk (final highlight in tweet/video below).
Proceeds from the game will be used to support UNICEF, the Nelson Mandela Foundation and SOS Children’s Villages South Africa (SOSCVSA).
